I never had noticed any chances on this end but apparently some web browsers are getting a glimpse of a possible New Google Design Layout.
I personally think the left side navigation (instead of having it above the search bar) is distracting and gets in the way of the search results. I would be shocked if they pulled the switch to this new layout for everyone.
